Local Climate Activists demand a Fair Cop! #RiseToTheMoment

St Francis Church recently hosted a community Eco-Event on St Francis Day with Climate Action Newcastle and the Townswomen's Guild. The event marked the arrival in Newcastle of a wicker boat travelling from Cornwall to Scotland. Walkers from the Young Christian Climate Network are doing a relay on foot from Truro, near the G7 venue, to the COP26 talks in Glasgow in early November where world leaders will have the chance to:
- Reinstate foreign aid budgets to pre-COVID levels,
- secure agreement from rich countries to at least double the decade-old promise of $100bn a year for climate finance
- Ensure finance for climate-induced loss and damage
- Push for debt cancellation so climate-vulnerable nations can better confront the climate crisis and other urgent priorities
There were free homemade cakes and hot chocolate, folk music and singing, a bee keeping stall with honey from the comb to taste, a chance to write pledges and make prayer flags and origami boats, and people of all generations took part supporting this vital issue. #SameStormDifferentBoat
