Upcoming Dates for the Diary!
Here are some highlights of what's on in the next few weeks at St Francis Church:
Saturday 23rd June - The Jo Cox Great Get Together
St Francis is hosting the Friends of Jenifer Grove 'Great Get Together', an opportunity to celebrate of the fact that 'we have far more in common than that which divides us'. The event runs for 2-5pm. All are warmly invited to attend! Last year it was a fabulous occasion.
Sunday 1st July - Jon Cooper's Ordination and First Eucharist
At the Cathedral at 10am, our Curate, Jon Cooper, will be ordained Priest by the Bishop of Newcastle. There will therefore be no 9.30am service but there is space for anyone who would like to go! We have 30 seats with a good view booked and this Sunday is the last chance to sign up at the back of church for one of these. At St Francis at 6pm on the same day, Jon will preside at the Eucharist for the first time. It will be a very special service giving thanks for the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and will be followed by fizz and cake. Please come and support Jon if you can. If you would like to contribute to a present for Jon, please pass your gift to Robert or one of the church wardens!
Sunday 7th July - Summer Festival
Our Summer Festival will run from 12-2pm. Last year's Festival was a great success with lots of entertainment, wonderful food, and plenty of games and activities. This year it promises to be even bigger and better. Please come and bring a friend if you can. Emma and Sue would like plenty of volunteers to run stalls so please speak to them if you are willing to help!
Sunday 22nd July - Parish Walk at St Francis, Byrness
After Church on 22nd of July we will be heading to visit the other St Francis Church in the Diocese in Byrness, and going for a walk and a picnic. More details to follow!
Friday 7th - Sunday 9th September - Pathways Mission
This weekend bishops from around the country will be coming to our diocese to be involved in events to help church's to reach out their community. We are planning several events at St Francis including a 'Coffee and Prayer Cart' on the Tram Track Friday morning, and a Community Harvest Festival on Sunday, followed by an eco-fest, with various green stall-holders on the field. More details to follow!

A few days of events to celebrate our Patron Saint Francis! Still in the planning but highlights include: Patronal Festival Eucharist on Thursday 4th, a Ceilidh and Supper on Saturday 6th and our Feast of Dedication on Sunday 7th!
